If you plan to visit Homer (which you should) during your time in Alaska, there are several ways to get there. If you decide not to rent a car in Alaska, one of those most convenient ways is the Anchorage to Homer shuttle. Once you are in Homer, you can then rent a car locally or stay at a lodge that includes all activities and transportation.
We took the shuttle from Homer to Anchorage and in this post, we'll share with you our experience so you can see what it's like.
Disclosure: Our trip to Homer including the shuttle was sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce but all thoughts and opinions are entirely our own.
Anchorage to Homer Shuttle
In case you don't have a rental car to drive yourself to Homer, there is a way to get around without having your own wheels. Red Eye Rides is a shuttle company that started offering rides to the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport from Seward but they have expanded to include other routes to destinations like Homer, Soldotna, Cooper Landing, Girdwood and Sterling.
We used them to get from Seward to Soldotna and Homer to Anchorage and it was super convenient. The shuttle was clean, drive was smooth and we got to stop a few times along the way to take pictures of a beautiful lake and the sunset. They also let us stop to take pictures of some moose by the side of the road.

We got a shuttle from Seward to Soldotna as we took the Anchorage to Seward train. These are excellent options to get around Alaska if you don't plan to rent a car.
Seward to Soldotna
We were promptly picked up by our driver in front of our hotel, Harbor 360 in Seward. Our next destination was Soldotna, about a 2 hour drive.
Unfortunately it was raining for nearly the entire drive, so we didn't stop along the way. She dropped us off directly at our destination, the Soldotna Visitors Center where we would then meet the rest of our group.
The rate for Seward to Soldotna is $125 USD per way and $175 USD round trip.
Homer to Anchorage
For our Homer to Anchorage shuttle, it was a lot more exciting as we had fantastic weather. We stopped three times. Once to see Tern Lake, once to see some moose by Soldotna and another to get photos of a beautiful sunset in Girdwood across the water of Turnagain Arm.
The shuttle from Homer to Anchorage costs $200 USD per adult per way. Same price for the Anchorage to Homer shuttle. It takes around 4 hours per way
